Apparently, as I look about my surroundings, I am the only thing here that seems impervious to the effects of age. Well, I guess I have to include our texture collections in the same category, as well, since we normally create our textures without signs of wear, stress or (OMG, he's not going to say...) the ravages of time. The reason for this is simple. We have no way of knowing how you will use these textures or what type of environment you'll subject them to.
A block of stone will age quite differently in Los Angeles than it would in Giza, or a rain forest. A distressed floor is of little use to you if you're creating a visualization of a brand new building. The world's largest collection of rusty metal textures is not much use to you if you're creating a snazzy, new car, but even if you need an aged texture, it must have been aged in the correct environment or it just doesn't work.
Well, help is on the way, I assure you. We're feverishly working on our next CD release to help you age, distress, corrode, or beat the living daylights out of just about anything. Codename:Methuselah is coming! ...but, Hey! You didn't get this from me, right?
